HARDTAC Technology Overview

HARDTAC is an acronym for High-Aspect Ratio, Draft-Tube, Agitated Crystallizer. We provide the core crystallization unit as part of a comprehensive wastewater/byproduct treatment and/or chemical production system.

HARDTAC is state-of-the-art in the controlled removal of metals and/or inorganic constituents from industrial wastewater and byproduct streams.

Some applications of the HARDTAC process:

KOH Production from spent KOH in refinery HF alkylation units

Spent HF acid treatment from refining industry HF alkylation unit blow-downs

Spent pickle liquor treatment from the steel industry carbon and stainless steel pickling operations

Any metals finishing and related operation yielding:

•  A byproduct stream containing valuable constituents that could be recycled.
•  A wastewater stream containing toxic or regulated constituents that must be effectively treated prior to POTW/surface waters discharge.
•  A wastewater stream that, once treated, produces a cake that may or may not be hazardous. The cake is not usable and must be disposed of efficiently through reduced cake mass generation.

HARDTAC outperforms the more conventional treatment approaches employed for decades with no significant technical improvements. These include what Process Solutions refers to as the "flash mixing" systems.

Advantages HARDTAC holds over flash mixed systems:

Consistently superior removal of metals and inorganic constituents from the treated stream.

High fractional conversion of chemical reagents.

Production of large, easily settleable and dewaterable solids.

Minimized cake mass generation, an important consideration if the material can be recycled or must be land-filled.

Minimized process equipment and complexity through the integrated, modular design approach.
