BIOSOLIDS MARKET
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF BIOSOLIDS FACILITIES

Our operations and maintenance approach focuses on continuous attention to personnel safety, end product quality and markets, air emissions mitigation and odor control.

The majority of the biosolids maintenance facilities we manage are a processing component of an existing wastewater treatment plant we operate. For example, for the cities of New Orleans and Vancouver, Wash., we operate wastewater treatment facilities and the dewatering and incineration of biosolids.

We also operate and maintain several stand-alone, high-technology biosolids management facilities, which also serve as regional and/or merchant operations.

Bristol, Tenn. – A 14.3-dtpd regional in-vessel biosolids composting facility.

Hickory, N.C. – A 20-dtpd regional in-vessel biosolids composting facility servicing the cities of Hickory and Conover and other municipalities within Catawba County.

Cranston, RI – A 57.5-dtpd regional liquid receiving, high solids centrifuge dewatering and multiple-hearth incineration facility servicing the city of Cranston with merchant operations for numerous other Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts municipalities.

Naugatuck, Conn. – A 70-dtpd merchant liquid and cake receiving, high solids centrifuge dewatering and fluidized-bed incineration facility servicing Borough of Naugatuck and numerous other Connecticut, southeastern New York and southwestern Massachusetts municipalities.

Our Leadership and Experience with the Management of Biosolids

Veolia Water North America has a proven track record in the management of biosolids at both wastewater treatment plants and stand-alone biosolids facilities. Our services in the biosolids market, whether they are design-build-operate or operations and management, are built on a foundation of full regulatory compliance, focused asset management and proactive community relations. We are committed to operations excellence and effective processing systems controls.

We manage more than 295,000 dry tons per year (dtpy) of biosolids, of which nearly 85 percent is dewatered and further processed for disposition in a non-liquid form. On a wet solids basis, this is equivalent to handling more than 2.25 million tons per year, or 6,185 wet tons per day.

We process 645 million gallons per year of liquid biosolids.

We lead the industry in providing Class A biosolids solutions and marketing and distributing of Exceptional Quality (EQ) biosolids products.

Design-Build-Operate Services

The design-build-operate approach streamlines the traditional design-build delivery approach by granting a single contract agreement for completion of an entire project. With one company, like Veolia Water, managing the entire process, municipalities often experience savings of 20 to 30 percent and experience an enhanced delivery of the completed project.

Our approach to providing design-build-operate services for biosolids processing systems is to work closely with the technology provider during the design, construction, startup and initial operations of the completed facilities.

Eight communities, large and small, have called on us for the design, build, and operation of their biosolids processing facilities. Our projects, which include composting and incineration systems, have a combined processing capacity of nearly 480 dry tons per day (dtpd).

A few of our design-build-operate projects include:

Baltimore, Md. - a 45-dtpd enclosed in-vessel composting facility and marketing and distribution to beneficial uses of more than 85,000 cubic yards per year of Exceptional Quality (EQ) biosolids compost products.

Schenectady, NY. - a 15-dtpd in-vessel composting facility with marketing and distribution to beneficial uses of 18,000 cubic yards of EQ compost product.

Products Marketing and Distribution

An integral scope of our Class A biosolids solutions and design-build-operate services is the marketing, sales and distribution of Exceptional Quality (EQ) compost products.

We manufacture and market nearly 180,000 tons per year of EQ products, including more than 130,000 cubic yards per year of bulk compost products.

Our two Class A-alkaline stabilization facilities produce nearly 97,000 tons per year of biosolids soil, which is bulk marketed and distributed as an organic amendment and ag-lime fertilizer.
